I like to buy the ornamental ones if I'm mounting them on a wall, for appearance's sake, but I do a lot of cages with sticks and twine, and my peas this year are climbing on fishing line. I've never tried using bamboo, but it probably looks a little nicer than the basic stakes I've been using! I make most of my trellises, too!
